Nydia TrackThe nydia track is a lovely 2 day trek, with accomodation options from the ECO LODGE to Doc campsites, & huts. All located within Nydia bay.
A linkage of two old bridle path has created this 27km trail, which crosses Kaiuma & Nydia saddle, giving unique views either side of nydia bay & out to the wider sounds. The surrounding varies from untouched forest, to regenerating native bush, boasting Rimu, Nikau, & beech trees, all surround by the abundant ferns & flora of New Zealand bush.
Good footwear required as there are some rocky area & streams to be crossed, care should be take if crossing after rain, the stream levels can rise.
Bird watchers will enjoy Nydia, with wood pigeons, Tui & bell birds to be seen, & fantails & robins commonly flit about monitoring your progress. Along the waters edge of the bay, herons stalk their prey & out deeper the shags & gannets feast. There is even a resident eel, in one of the streams, keen to share your lunch, or just watch you pass..
Bikes are welcome on the track, usually best from the north to south, the track is considered technical, but highly recommended, Bikes can start from duncan bay, or from the opouri saddle to give an extended downhill run to Duncan bay.
The nydia track is a two day walk, based on approx 4.5 hours each day. Bluemoon Shuttle runs a drop off or pick up service to Duncan bay. Wakamarina trackThe Wakamarina track is a full day cycle track. Bluemoon Shuttle runs 2 options for this track. Queen Charlotte trackThe Queen Charlotte track is one of New Zealands most beautiful Walk/cycle tracks. It can be walked in 3-6 days depending on your desired pace. |
